Buying Used Jets Vs Buying Nearly New Jets

Posted by Jess Dayuno on August 26th, 2008

If you want to buy something as expensive as a private jet, one usually think if it’s good to buy a new one or a used one.

When one has money to buy life essentials, it always comes down to what is the best in the market out there. Jets we all know are quite expensive and it is always the super rich who can afford them. However, even if one has the money to shell out, the best and the hottest in the market are not available. The order list for these jets are so long that when one wants the newest Gulfstream or Dassault Falcon or even a Bombardier Global Express, they need to wait for five to ten years to get a hold of one.

With this type of situation, there is only two ways to go in fully owning a jet. Buy a used one or buy a nearly new one, which means buying a position on the long list of pre-ordered jets.

If one does want to really own a brand new jet now as in immediately, the usual deal is enticing future owners who are on the exclusive waiting list with doubling the manufacturer’s price, which is quite crazy. The other option is buy a jet, which was slightly used.

However, buying a slightly used jet would mean a lot of risks involved unless one must be so diligent in investigating the history of the jet they are buying. The number of hours it was used, how many times it flew, which means that one has one excellent mechanic team to take a look on the condition of the jet plus another team to inspect on the interiors.

It would be a lot less expensive to buy an old one on the surface but in the long run it can prove to be as expensive as buying a new one. Sometime after buying the used jet, one has to upgrade some of the parts of the jet.

And what about the interiors, if one is not so particular about the interiors, the color, the carpet, the seats, etc, it wont be a big deal but otherwise, it might be another expense that is quite costly.

Between the two, the used one and the nearly new one, it would probably be better if one can access himself on what his needs are. When deciding on buying a slightly used jet it would be wise to get the best and most trusted team of experts to help you inspect the jet and make a calculation if it will really be a bargain on your part, unless of course, you are willing to shell out twice the amount of a new jet.
